​The series upper YA, and can get a fair bit darker than typical YA books. 

 

Violence

There is violence and fighting, though not severely graphic.  Fighting is almost always done with knives and swords or hand-to-hand.  Many battles also feature powers warring against each other and used in combat.  There is no gun violence.

Sexual Content

There is no sexual content, either explicit, fade to black or behind closed doors.  Romance is a small subplot in most books, if it's there at all.  The furthest any romantic relationship goes on page is kissing.  There are sapphic, Achillean, straight passing, polyamorous, monogamous and T4T relationships; all are non-sexual and will not turn into it in later books.  I'd like to mention that even though I do not write sexual content, I will not tolerate slutshaming.

Swearing

There is not any excessive swearing or use of extremely bad words.  For example, in Through Shadow and Mind, the word "damn" is used twice, and that is the extent of the cursing.  Swearing is implied, especially with Sammi, but is not stated in text.

​Mental Health

Several characters deal with mental heath struggles throughout the series.  Specifics include anxiety, trauma, nightmares and grief.  Causes of trauma include car accidents, fire & burns, fall injuries, stabbing injuries, death of close friends and a family member going missing.  There are some characters that can be assumed to have depression, ADHD, autism or other neurodiversity's.  Feelings of betrayal are also a HUGE part of the series, especially after Through Shadow and Mind.  As mental health can be a personal and troubling subject, it is used in the series in what I have tried to make respectful and not used for only shock value.
